The Directorate of Border Crossing Infrastructure under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, which is carrying out the modernization works of the Medininkai border crossing point, implemented the first stage of reconstruction of the point and implemented project No. ENI-LLB-0-250 "Modernization of Medininkai border crossing point".
The implementation of project starts on August 1, 2019, the end of the project – June 30, 2023.
Project is implemented under the European Neighborhood Instrument and financed by the European Union.
After the implementation of the project, 207 m long road section from the Medininkai border crossing point to the state border was widened, with the installation of 4 traffic lanes in both directions. During these works, the roadbed of the widened road was formed, the soil was compacted, the road surface structure was installed and a three-layer asphalt concrete surface was laid, and a separate safe movement lane was installed for safe pedestrian crossing. Along with the road installation works, engineering communication and electrical networks and devices were installed, traffic regulation and blocking equipment, vehicle scales, trusses for road signs and screens, variable information road signs were installed. In addition, the conditions for the movement of large-sized transport through the border control point are ensured: a road lane has been installed, which can be used by vehicles carrying large non-standard cargo. During its implementation, the project was supplemented by the installation of the infrastructure of the European Union's entry-exit system (EES), designed to register the movement of people from third countries. A registration point for truck drivers was built, informational LED screens were installed, etc.
The amount of project funded by EU is EUR 2,500,000.00 the total value of the project is EUR 3,347,181.00.
